Becoming a Teacher at ISPP
ISPP is the leading international school in Cambodia. We are accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and fully authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma (DP).
Certification and Experience
As our school is accredited and authorized, we expect all our full-time teachers to be certified. We are searching for top international teachers who have a valid teaching certification in their area of instruction, and who are knowledgeable about the three IB programmes we offer, to join our team. While IB training is not essential, it is preferable. Those candidates without IB training or experience will commit to taking an introductory IB workshop prior to arrival at ISPP to ensure the best possible start to their first school year with us.
Technology
ISPP has a strong commitment to technology and uses Moodle throughout the school. Students may access course work from home or from any computer in the school. We expect all teachers to be or to become conversant with Moodle.
Focus on Learning
ISPP is dedicated to becoming a Professional Learning Community that has an explicit focus on learning throughout the school. Teachers who wish to join this community need to be aware that ISPP teachers collaborate and share in teams - they do not teach in isolation.
- Teachers at ISPP are accountable for student learning.
- Teachers at ISPP use a variety of assessment practices and understand how to interpret the results.
- Teachers at ISPP collect data on learning and interpret the results to inform delivery of the curriculum.
- Teachers at ISPP serve on several committees to improve our delivery of the curriculum and plan the direction of the school.
Teachers who are not comfortable with these expectations would be better matched at other schools.
Work Ethic
ISPP is a very busy school. In Secondary, we are active participants in the Mekong River International Schools Association (MRISA) and our sports teams travel throughout our region to compete in addition to local fixtures within Phnom Penh. In addition, we send delegations to regional Model United Nations and we have developed a comprehensive IB CAS program with activities linked to development initiatives within Cambodia. We also run an exciting Week Without Walls program in February. Secondary teachers also act as Home Group Advisors and sponsors of weekly activities for students. In Elementary, we also do community service projects, organize student trips both inside and outside Cambodia and organize many events outside of tuition time. We expect our teaching faculty to commit to learning activities with our students outside as well as inside the classroom. You need a very strong work ethic to be a successful teacher at ISPP.
Health
Cambodia is not a hardship post by any stretch of the imagination. However, health services are developing. ISPP provides comprehensive health coverage, but if you have a history of medical issues you need to consider whether Cambodia is the best place for you personally. That said, we have numerous young teaching couples with children working at ISPP. You need to be in good health to be a successful teacher at ISPP.
Professionalism
Cambodia is attractive to different people for different reasons. ISPP vets every candidate teacher who is offered a contract through the International Justice Mission (IJM). This organization runs background and criminal checks in coordination with a candidate's country of citizenship and each country in which a candidate has previously worked.
Optimism
Teachers at ISPP are positive people for whom the glass is always half full. Cambodia is a developing country and there is a great sense of optimism about the future here. ISPP and our community share this optimism and our school is committed to creating a dynamic learning environment for students and teachers that is challenging and rewarding. We are very particular about who joins our teaching faculty because we are protective of the quality of learning at one of the most dynamic mid-sized schools in South East Asia. As an educator, if you think you can meet or exceed our expectations, we look forward to hearing from you.
