MRISA Cultural Exchange 2010

MRISA Cultural Exchange 2010

MRISA (Mekong River International Schools Association) was founded in 1998 to allow international schools in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and most recently Thailand to meet for sporting events and a cultural exchange.

The schools involved include:

    • United Nations International School of Hanoi (Vietnam)
    • Hanoi International School (Vietnam)
    • International School of Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam)
    • Saigon South International School (Vietnam)
    • International School of Phnom Penh (Cambodia)
    • Vientiane International School (Laos)
    • Northbridge International School of Cambodia (Cambodia)
    • International School Eastern Seaboard (Thailand)

A MRISA Cultural Exchange takes place once a year and alternates between member schools. Each cultural exchange has a specific theme which provides the focus for the workshops and performances presented. This year, Northbridge International School Cambodia hosted the MRISA Cultural Exchange 2010.

Teachers and guest artists ran a series of workshops exploring the Visual and Performing Arts. The programme was full and varied, with a mixture of Specialist Workshops in Visual Arts, Music and Drama from which students made 2 choices. Previous MRISA workshops have included Stomp, Mask Dancing, Sword Fighting, Abstract Sculptures, Mural Painting, Jewellery Making, Salsa Dancing, Rock Band, Electronic Music and Comic Life.

Specialist Workshops ran for three 1.5 hour sessions over three days, and gave students the chance to experience an in-depth creative task. Cultural Workshops ran for 3.5 hours and students were able to select from a wide range of Arts disciplines and Cultural activities. Some of the workshops were run by artists and craftspeople with teachers supervising.
