Food as a Resource
As action from their unit of inquiry on Food as a Resource, Ms. Anita's Grade 2/3 class decided to make and sell lime juice and Mango Mush. These used fruits that are grown locally and are in season, which help people locally in the food distribution system and are better for the environment. After a lot of lime squeezing, advertising and selling, they raised $152. The class were inspired by their presentation by Mr. Ammar from the World Food Programme and donated half this money to WFP, which has gone to support their relief work in Nepal. The other $76 will go towards a school garden at our new school. This was inspired by growing our own food during the unit and through playing on-line simulations like Minecraft Marketplace and Third World Farmer when we saw the need for farmers to have money to buy seeds to grow.
