BECOME A TEACHER AT ISPP

ISPP is the leading international school in Cambodia. We are accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and fully authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organisation to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma (DP).

Child Protection

ISPP has very stringent vetting procedures in place for every candidate teacher who is offered a contract. ISPP requires a criminal clearance check from candidates’ home of origin and from every country they have taught in. This is at the teacher’s own cost. ISPP also uses the services of an external organisation to run background and criminal checks in coordination with a candidate’s country of origin to cross-reference all documents submitted to support a teacher’s application.

The Council of International Schools website includes a comprehensive resource which provides information on criminal background check procedures worldwide. More information can be found at this link.

Certification and Experience

As our school is accredited and authorised, we expect all our full-time teachers to be certified. We search for top international teachers with valid teaching certification in their area of instruction, and who are knowledgeable about the three IB programmes we offer, to join our team. While IB training is not essential, it is preferable. Those candidates without IB training or experience will commit to taking an introductory IB workshop prior to arrival at ISPP to ensure the best possible start to their first school year with us.

Technology

ISPP has a strong commitment to technology and Google Apps are used throughout the school. We are a one-to-one Macbook school for Grades 6-12 and use a combination of iPads and laptops in the Elementary. Students may access coursework from home or any device in the school. We expect all teachers to be or become conversant with Google Apps.

Learning Principles

Beyond the School Day

In Secondary, students are active participants in the Mekong River International Schools Sports Association (MRISA) and our sports teams travel throughout our region to compete, in addition to local fixtures within Phnom Penh. Delegations are sent to regional Model United Nations, we host our own MUN, and we have developed a comprehensive IB CAS programme with activities linked to development initiatives within Cambodia. We also run a comprehensive Week Without Walls programme in January.

In Elementary, we do community service projects and organise student trips within Cambodia including participation in the Angkor Wat International Fun Run and Bike Ride. We are active members of Young Athletes of Phnom Penh (YAPP) and host most of these events on the ISPP campus. We expect our teaching faculty to commit to learning activities with our students outside as well as inside the classroom. You need a very strong work ethic to be a successful teacher at ISPP.

Health

Cambodia is not a hardship post by any stretch of the imagination. However, health services are developing. ISPP provides comprehensive health coverage, and we have numerous teaching couples working at ISPP who have young families. However, if you have a history of medical issues you need to consider whether Cambodia is the best place for you personally. You need to be in good health to be a successful teacher at ISPP.

Optimism

Cambodia is a developing country and there is a great sense of optimism about the future here. ISPP and our community share this optimism and our school is committed to creating a dynamic learning environment for students and teachers that is challenging and rewarding. We are very particular about who joins our teaching faculty because we are protective of the quality of learning at one of the most dynamic mid-sized schools in South East Asia.

As an educator, if you think you can meet or exceed our expectations, and your teaching philosophy aligns with our ISPP Learning Principles, we look forward to hearing from you.
